Cat. #00080322: EDDIE CANTOR

Bold vintage black fountain pen signature on a 4x5-inch light green autograph album page, acquired in-person in 1942 and decorated with a Players Directory biography. In fine condition for its age, affixed to a slightly larger leaf, with minor creasing in spots. Banjo-eyed and beloved comic singer, songwriter, songwriter, dancer, and film actor Eddie Cantor popularized tunes like "Makin' Whoopee," "Ida," "If You Knew Susie," "Ida, Sweet as Apple Cider," "That's the Kind of a Baby for Me," "Hello, Sunshine, Hello," "The Man on the Flying Trapeze," "Lena from Palestina," "Ma! He's Makin' Eyes at Me," "Margie," "Mandy," "You'd Be Surprised," "There's Nothing Too Good for My Baby," and "How You Gonna Keep 'Em Down on the Farm?" and delighted audiences in classic comedies like Kid Boots (1926), Whoopee! (1930), Palmy Days (1931), The Kid from Spain (1932), Roman Scandals (1934), Kid Millions (1934), Ali Baba Goes to Town (1937), and Thank Your Lucky Stars (1943). It's a little-known fact that he composed "Merrily We Roll Along", adopted as Warner Brothers' Merrie Melodies cartoon theme song.
